Re: DIYer doing the Polished porcelain tiles for the first time
Cowboy is it?? Mate Ive been tinling for 8yrs and completed an apprenticeship, unlike back in the day when licenses were just handed out. Think you need a tiling refresher course to keep up with the times?? Do you still mux your glue with a stick?? pfft.
Well saxman, I would easily be able to lay a 70m floor on a/c sheeting without screed with a little thing called hand fixing, you must have heard of it?? You can go ahead and use screed or self level which I think you're talking about, but I wont, and get the same finish at the end of the job anyway, but maybe you want to screed to scam more money from the job perhaps??
But I guess if your a pro of laying large tiles proffessionaly for 30 years, you must know it all.
Dont get so testy, when someone has a different opinion then you or merely ask a question.... douche

Re: DIYer doing the Polished porcelain tiles for the first time Sorry Great Lay ,I will have to agree with Saxman on this .
I,for one, would like to see you lay 70 meteres of 600X 600 on some of the shit concrete that is out there. It is enough of a job to lay a 300X 300 tile on some jobs done by so called professional concretors.
There is no way in hell an individual can get a polished porcelain floor perfect if he was to direct stick because concrete floors are NEVER level or flat. Have you ever seen the reflection cast into a PP floor that is uneven??
And ,for the record, I never did an apprenticeship either. Does a piece of paper make you a better tradesman than me? Some of the best tradesman I have seen have no such formal training . Can't say the same about about some of the tradies that have done their time though.

Re: DIYer doing the Polished porcelain tiles for the first time How think is your screed when you do this??
Well man, has been done many a time. Look im not saying that you dont have to level a floor out on some occations, but as if you need to do it for everyfloor with 600x600 and bigger! The company I worked for when completing my apprento 5yrs ago was the biggest on the sunshine coast and employed about 40 tilers, did everything from massive commmercial jobs to renovations etc, and on the very rarist of rare occasions you'd have to ardit a floor on a slab or even a timber floor, unless it need bedding to get falls ofcourse.
Im sure If you tried handfixing a floor without a screed, you'd find that it is possible and also quite easy. I think you guys must just be getting all the crap work that noone else wants to touch perhaps??
Also I think you'll find that there are different way to do things which all comply with AS and get the same quality job at the end.
Think maybe Queenslanders are better tradies.
And who gives a shit about apprenticeship papers, it all comes down to if you can lay tiles and get a good finish.
But anyway, Im over the subject, I know it can be done quite easlily as its done on a daily basis all over the world.
