Re price - you are correct about estimating the fair price. That is why I was seeking info to see whether the local guy was being fair with his quote. At just under $200 pm plus an extra $2500 for the cement base (and that's cash) I think his quote may be excessive. As stated previously the tilers here have got plenty of work. I am considering employing a tiler from a city region and accommodating them. More locals are doing this due to local rates being charged.
Thanks Frank - you make some valid points. I was quoted a flat figure which comes to just under $200 per metre. The cement scree was priced at an extra $2500. Bear in mind that these figures were discounted for cash. I estimate that you could add an extra $2000min on top in what tiler is saving in tax etc
The area is kitchen, dining, family and hallway. Without a doubt there will be cutting involved.
Drive time - approx 15mins. We live in an area where there is a cluster of towns all within 20k of each other. Tradies flick between them all picking up work.
Tiles are top class. Appera to be fairly even although I know with natural stone there will be some variations.
Other than the green light from an adhesive supplier, the only other option is to use a concrete planer/scarifier. These can be hired from specialty hire stores or get a pro in. Forget concrete...
