Hi All,
I am starting to organise a bathroom renovation+extension. The existing bathroom is on a slab and the extension will be in an area that currently has floorboards.
I am wondering what preparation would be required to get to the stage of tiling the floor? I would like to use a frame less, hob less shower and it would cross the concrete/floorboard join.
So far a builder has advised me to remove the floorboards and install fibre cement sheeting. But I am not sure what would follow that exactly.
I am considering doing the waterproofing and tiling myself and getting a professional to do the appropriate work to get it to that stage (e.g. joints? sand cement? screed?), I have no experience but currently reading AS3958.1 & AS3740. Final question, Am I crazy?
hi luke think the best advice i can offer is get a tradie in,The job you are describing is not what i would classify as a diy try and get a few quotes and ask for recomended tilers around your friends
Agreed best left to a tradie. If you wanna save a few bucks ...see if the tiler will let you help out......and you can pick up a few pointers along the way.
I agree, I don't know any decent tradesmen who would just come in to do the dirty work of screeding. I never let people help, unless I know them, either...they always just get in the way.
Other than the green light from an adhesive supplier, the only other option is to use a concrete planer/scarifier. These can be hired from specialty hire stores or get a pro in. Forget concrete...
