Hi, the feature tile on the wall above the vanity was supposed to be in the centre of the vanity and it has been laid noticibly off centre to the right side. I was advised that this was because where the window was they needed to do this because they couldn't cut the tiles any smaller on each of the corners.
This vanity has two basins in it which makes it more obvious I think and the stone benches have been laid too.
What are my options? Can they redo some or should I just get a big mirror and cover all the tiles? Personally, I would have preferred no feature then one that blatantly says 'stuff up'.
I haven't got any photos as yet but am going out again tomorrow with my partner to see what he thinks.
Would appreciate any advice/suggestions you could offer. Thanks Dee Dee
hi Dee Dee welcome to the forum its a bit hard to advise on this one a picture would help maybe removing feature tile is the only option will wait for pics
Hi, thanks Jay for your response. I've been to the block today to have another look and taken some photos (as attached). Maybe I'm looking at the small detail to much cause my partner didn't think it was that bad. Any advice you (or anyone else on the forum) can offer would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Dee Dee
second pic shows some of the window and as it looks theres room to move but cant see other side must admit doesnt look good as you mentioned earlier might of looked better with none its a shame the tiler didnt talk to you regarding this matter would of saved a lot of heart ace any chance of a pic of entire wall would help
you could be right Notch Away looking again id near bet the left hand side of border is dead centre might be a balls up will wait til can see all the wall
Hi, thanks everyone for your responses. You have put my mind at ease as I was beginning to think I was being pedantic and too picky.
I went again for another look and did some measurements. This visit confirmed that I cannot leave it like this and need to do somthing to fix this somehow. I thought of a few options other than removing the wall and retiling: placing a low mirror however the mirror guys advised against this because of mirror decay (mould), then I thought of a tile border (on top of current tiles) all the way around and mirror placed in middle or similar with coloured glass splashback.
I reluctantly made the call to my builder to advise him that I was still not happy with the tiling in the ensuite and what we can do to fix it. He has been very helpful throughout the build and said if I really want him to that he will remove everything and start again on that wall he will. I said this was my very last option cause thats a big job. In the end my builder and cabinet maker came up with a solution that I think will look nice - continue the stone up the wall (like a splashback) and then place the mirror on that.
looks like centre is the left side edge of the feature. Your tiler could still of started the features at the centre. The cut row of tiles at the corner would be smaller but wouldnt be too bad...........and the tiles by the window will be bigger......still enough tile to cover it though. I think the tiler just made a simple mistake to start the main tiles at the centreline instead of the centreline being the centre of your feature.
Other than the green light from an adhesive supplier, the only other option is to use a concrete planer/scarifier. These can be hired from specialty hire stores or get a pro in. Forget concrete...
