Extras Does anyone get to charge for extras any more?
When I first started my business many years ago there were square meter rates, lineal meter rates for skirting , hobs ect & per piece rates for mitres.
All of this seems to have gone out the window for flat square meter rates.
So does anyone still get to charge for these or other extas?

Re: Extras I charge lineal rate for skirtings, hobs, borders, silicon etc. Sounds like you are being screwed by a specky home builder. Dont let them shortchange you mate.

Re: Extras Most definitely Bushwoodboy. Only I don't put them down as extras, they are all itemised when I quote. And always itemised on the invoice. It all reflects the time it takes to do something. My builders know what to expect.

Re: Extras Thanks TTek & Notch for the replies.
The actual builders that i work fora aren't a problem as such.
I gave away the cost only project builders many years ago.
I have just observed that the industry as a whole seems to be heading this way.
I also agree that they are not extras but part of the chargeable rate of the job, but are seen as extras by a majority of clients I quote for nowdays

Re: Extras I am the same. I itemise and charge out items as notch does. The only thing I include in my meterage rate is silicon.

Re: Extras I itemise pretty much the same as the rest of the guys and over here most builders know that is part and parcel of the job.
I would like to get an idea of what you guys are charging for such things as screeding and mitreing.
My rate for mitres are usually $1 per 100mm for clayback tiles and $2 for porcelains because of their inherent toughness. Screeds , i usually charge around the $30 pm2 mark IF the area is large enough. If not then i work it out on a time basis.

Re: Extras Hey Supreme, mitres I charge at $20-$30/lineal metre depending on the tile & screeding at $30/ sq.m. - $35 if it's up a lot of stairs and more if it gets thicker than 50mm. I always try to talk people into using an angle or trim rather than mitres, I usually talk them around.

Re: Extras I think those mitre rates are fair...I'll charge an extra $25 per lm to install the Mitres. Bedding is around $40/m2
