    Default Grout sealing

More and more of my customers are requesting grout sealing. This is not something I have done a lot of. I've seen various sprays, brushes and applicators, but can anyone suggest the best sealers/methods to use for sealing grout on glazed tiles?

Thanks Dave. I had seen the aerosole sealers before, but never used them. What's your opinion on the effectiveness of grout sealers. I always use grout additive to increase stain resistance. Is there really much to be gained by sealing as well?

I think it depends upon the sealer used....some coat the joints and do make maintenence easier but impregnators don't do a lot for me...but if it keeps the grout cleaner for longer then it has got to be beneficial...

Those aerosol sealers can be applied as soon as 15mins after grouting....whats your thoughts on that matt.?

I don't know what I think about the aerosols. I just used it today on a job so I guess it remains to be seen how good it is!

I know it is late for this reply but I maybe able to share some light on sealing grout as you guys know impregnating sealers work well but this only gives the customer enough time to treat a stain and no sealer will stop it from getting dirty as impregnating sealers sit just below the surface.

What we offer our customers now is grout colour sealing which is a topical coat therefore repels stains and dirt and it will last a life time no flaking, peeling or staining groutperfect colour seal comes in any colour the customer wants and can only be treated after 48 hours of a new install. Hope this helps

You should have a look at the Mapei Keracolor FF and Ultracolor ranges http://mapei.com.au. They're a lot easier to use, give a better finish and as they are hydrophobic are a lot more stain and mold resistant. So the need for sealers is reduced.

As grout perfect said, there is a big difference between staining and soiling and no sealer will prevent the latter.

Sure Seal in a spray can. I can't shed any light on it's effectiness on sealing grout. However I spray my straw fishing hat with it and you can chuck it in the surf and it comes back dry!
