    Default patchy black grout

    Hello,

I was chasing some info in regards to the australian standards on defective grouting.

I have had a professional tiler tile my floor and the black grout is inconsistant in colour. Some areas are black some areas are a light colour.

Is this classed as defective and is he liable to come fix it?

    Thanks

The problem here is there was too much water in the grout.I assume the tiler mixed it to a thick consistency then went about grouting. The grout was setting fast so he added water and reused it. Colour grout should be mixed close to workability as sand/cement grout then allow to set for 10 mins before remixing and this will allow for workability without grout setting too fast.

Even overworking the joints with the sponge whilst grouting can have the same result. Quite a common problem with darker coloured grout if you don't know what you are doing.

    Thanks for the info guys.

The tiler is trying to pass it off as a manufactures fault with the grout, but half of the grout has turned out so I think he may be kidding himself.

Any suggestions on how he can fix this and make the grout uniform in colour. I have heard of aqua mix grout stain, is this the best and quickest option?
